Hi TiN,
I've just registered here for I have some kind of "feature request" regarding the SLI Patch.
I'm using a Gigabyte X38 Board with a single GTX 470, and have no intentions to go Multi GPU. So what am i doing with the patch? I need it for circumventing a restriction in every NVidia GeForce driver release since 186.18 which forces the card to work in PCIe 1.0 mode only instead of PCIe 2.0 when paired with a X38 chipset. (Reasons for this seems to be power management issues, here's a thread in the NV forum about this issue:
http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=153911)
As the SLI Patch makes the driver believe the mainboard is X58-based, the driver doesn't force the card to run in PCIe 1.0 Mode and i'm getting the full PCIe 2.0 bandwidth.
I would be using the SLI Patch till today, but with the latest patches for Win7, the ntoskrnl.exe was updated to build 16617 while the ntoskrnp.exe of the SLI Patch is still the old build 16539.
So i had to decide between the latest security and stability fixes from MS or running my card with PCIe 2.0 speed, and i took the windows updates over more bandwidth.
So here's my feature request: Would it be possible for you/your team to create a lightweight patch or additional .dll/whatever with the single purpose of tricking the driver into thinking the mainboard is X58-based, without all the SLI stuff?
I don't need the SLI stuff anyway and i don't like being dependent on modified windows system files, so i'm hoping that it's possible to cheat the driver without modifying the ntoskrnl.exe.
I hope my english is good enough so that you can see what i'm asking for.
Good night and greetings from the baltic sea.
